2025-Nov-30 21:41:18 Amusingly, KDE's volume slider is on a log or dB scale (I think Windows might have been linear), so it goes from very quiet to blasting your ears. Overall slightly better I think. |
2025-Nov-30 03:34:25 Got the 3D maze game engine compiling here on #Linux. I'd already done this on another install a year or two back, so not much needed changing. |

2025-Nov-29 02:39:35 Well folks, I just formatted the Windows 10 partition on my main PC and put Debian 13.2 on there instead. #Linux Currently copying 570k files from the backup disk. |

2025-Nov-27 02:04:14 3-day week this week. Finished a conference paper, reviewed a paper, and did some error studies of the crystalline beam in a ring. It can go 25mm off axis and bounce around, not heating up much, but more sensitive to its internal velocity distribution. #physics #accelerators |

2025-Nov-19 02:35:44 Now I'm thinking the original headphones I had were the "fakes" because a more expensive set sound just like the recent ones I bought (with less treble by default). |
2025-Nov-19 01:51:41 I remember a period in the 00s where everyone was using instant messengers but a few years later everyone collectively decided having these things pinging at them was annoying. I suppose that's what they mean by internet time is 10x faster than normal time. |

2025-Nov-16 19:52:21 Much windier at the beach today. I had to walk into a sandstorm on the way back. |
2025-Nov-16 04:12:58 Although there is a way to make them sound more like real headphones by boosting the missing bass and treble back in. |
2025-Nov-16 03:47:21 Looks (or rather, sounds) like the Sennheiser HD206 headphones I found cheaper on Ebay were actually fakes. They sound different, even though external appearance is a very good match. |
2025-Nov-15 23:59:21 #accelerators #physics Rectangular bends are OK, horizontal tune 0 (but different path lengths). Sector bends are a complete disaster! But an in-between one gives you roughly equal path lengths and a horizontal tune of 1. |
2025-Nov-15 23:16:33 Someone (me) forgot to put the cardboard recycling out last week so I've been stamping on boxes to flatten them so another 2 weeks' worth will fit in the bin. |

2025-Nov-14 18:27:16 Crash.
The monitor's resolution is 2560x1440. The fourfold corrupted error message at the top suggest a multiple of 640px width, perhaps it's a 1920x1080 image wrapped badly? The lower half as fivefold 512px periodicity. If it's 32bit colour depth, those are 2KB data structures of some sort. |
